An automotive supplier company's evolution to a manufacturer of special-purpose vehicles
Thuringia has been a good location for trade and industry for generations now. Approximately one third of Germany's output of motor vehicles prior to the Second World War was generated in the industrial regions in Thuringia and Saxony. This has given the company Multicar, a branch works of Hako-Werke GmbH, a long tradition as a vehicle and machine manufacturer. The works' roots stretch all the way back to the trenties.
1920 Foundation of ADE-Werke Waltershausen
1946 Re-opening as „Gerätebau Waltershausen"
1948 Renamed VEB Fahrzeugwerk Waltershausen
1956 Production of diesel-powered vehicles starts
1958 The M21 marks the birth of the „Multicar"
1964 The next generation Multicar 22 rolls off the production line
1974 The new Multicar 24 becomes more powerful, faster, and more comfortable
1978 The newly-developed two-seater version is given the name Multicar 25
1985 The Multicar can now be fitted with four-wheel drive
1990 VEB Fahrzeugwerk becomes Multicar Spezialfahrzeuge GmbH
1991 Der Multicar 91 goes into series production with a VW engine
1992 The new model Multicar 26 rolls off the production line
1993 5-seater double-cabins are added to the programme
1994 Birth of the M 26 Champion
1995 Celebration of the company's 75th anniversary
1996 Hydrostatic drive and a new ball-coupling system
1997 Successful market launch of the Multicar airfield tow tractor
1998 Multicar becomes a member of the Hako group
1999 Airfield tow tractor with hybrid diesel-electric drive
2001 Presentation of the new FUMO (FUnction & MObility)
2002 FUMO Hydrostat and Euro 3 motorization
2003 FUMO series with double cabin
2004 New business field: MUNGO / New vehicle models make their debut
2005 Merger between Hako-Werke GmbH and Multicar Spezialfahrzeuge GmbH
2006 M 26, FUMO, and TREMO Carrier now fitted with Euro 4 engines
